The Origin of FiliGamer

I'm blessed to be born in the 1990's where both old practices and new practices are experienced. During my childhood in the 1990's kids are gifted with a variaety of games that can be inside and outside the home. Though it saddens me to think that kids nowadays can only have fun when they have gadgets on hand, such as iPads, PS Vitas, 3DS, Android Phones, and Tablets. Though one should admit that playing with gadgets is fun, but it is sad that the fun outside rarely finds the essence of it to reach the kids born today in this crazy techy world.

Tumbang Preso, a game that can be played by 2 or more kids, where the "IT" needs to protect an empty can while other players need to knock it down with a "Pamato(Slippers)".
Agawan Base, is a version of the game "Capture the Flag" though it has it's own twists that it can be played even in a small area, this game can be played by 8 children and above.
Some of the famous games that were played during the 1990's are: Patintero, Piko, Tagutaguan, Langit Lupa, Luksong Baka/Tinik, Habulan, Sunka, and much more.

Though street games are common past time activities for kids back in the 1990's, the computer age was dawning fast. As I remembered the first time my brother and I played a computer game was with a DOS computer and it was Dinosaurs, then came Windows Ski, Vikings, and Pipes. Mid 1990's the famous first person shooter Counter Strike hits the scene and made an impact in the Philippines Economy. Computer shops are sprouting from every street corner. After a few years another tyrant came into the scene which is MMOs, and so forth as the gaming world as we know came to be.

I can't deny that computer games aren't fun, they are supper fun that's why even adults play them, but wouldn't it be nice to have the kids, "Our Kids", play and enjoy the games that made us who we are today.

New Breed of Pokemon

http://www.pokemon-gl.com/

The world renowned title Pokemon has yet again released their newest product. Pokemon X/Y has been out in the market this last quarter 2013 and has been attracting dozens of thousands of Pokefans all over the world, but with positive feedback also comes the negative. Though this is the first installment of the Pokemon series on the Nintendo 3DS system, one should expect that this should be like a beta version of the game. Though the graphics are most noticecable that they really used and mostlikely maximized the pheripherals of the game system, I am not that excited with the new list of the Pokemon that they have created. Though I need to give a hands up with the creation of some especially with the newest type "Fairy". "Fairy" Pokemons are resistant to Fighting, Bug, and Dark Pokemon, while take no damage from "Dragon" types.

The 8th Evolution of Eevee: Sylveon(Intertwining Pokémon)

Another fantastic feature of the game is what they call "Chaining". Chaining is a process of encountering the same Pokemon over and over again to increase the chance of finding a shiny of it's kind. Though chaining can be done in land and fishing, players can only chain on land inside patches of grass. Players also need to be careful since the chaining process isn't easy at all.
Another feature that creators had incorporated in the game is the ability to mega evolve certain Pokemon. Some are Blaziken(Gen III), Gengar(Gen I), Lucario(Gen IV), Scizor(Gen II), and more. Though not all Pokemon can MegaEvolve at the moment we can wait and see what more can the Pokemon team pull up from their sleeves with future updates.

Review: Path of Exile

Blizzard's "Diablo" series was a huge success so far, but the latest installment Diablo III was bombed by critics, especially on the hype before it got release after long years of waiting. I bought myself a copy of Diablo III since I was an avid fan of the hack and slash game. Though I finished the story of the game, it still lacked the essence of the previous installments Diablo and Diablo II. While thinking of other hack and slash games, I stumbled upon POE(Path of Exile). At first glance I was sure that this was a rip-off of Diablo III, but I tried it and low and behold it has its charm of its own.

Path of Exile(PoE) is a free to play game that only needs the client and an account. You can choose between the starter classes "Marauder, Duelist, Ranger, Shadow, Witch, and Templar". When the game is finished and you want a class with much more challenge, one can try out the Scion which incorporates all of the three main attributes "Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence". One more thing to look out is that the main client itself is small, though a word of warning that updates for patches usually are big, it ranges from 300MB to 1GB and above.

Another thing that made me interested was the skill tree that is more simillar to Final Fantasy's MMO. Instead of a fix skill tree like the Diablo installments one can get creative with the vast skills that are available for each and every hero class available, though ofcourse the starting point would still be on different sides of the skill tree.

The storyline has it's own twists and charm. As the games name states, a player would pick a class of exile and would be stranded in an untamed land known as Wraeclast: the land of the damned. Players need to finish a series of quests to help the inhabitants and to uncover the mysteries of the vast and wild continent. With monsters, mystic beings, and corrupted soldiers that would want to take your life.

One of the features that players can enjoy is the game modes available. Unlike Diablo's hardcore mode where you can't use a character once dead, PoE's hardcore mode is different. While you can choose this game mode from the very start, even if your character dies you can still use them, though the game mode would be turned into standard game play. Don't cry yet because as a compensation all of your items in your inventory will still be there, but the items in the storage can only be accessed if a player creates another hardcore character.

That said and done, we can give it an overall score of 7.5/10. If you find yourself bored with the same old MMOs you can certainly try out this and see for yourself if it deserves the credit.

What's up with the LoL's Community?

League of Legends (LoL) is multiplayer game inspired by the mod Defense of the Ancients for the video game WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne. It was created by "Riot Games" on October 2009 and immediately came to the Philippines around early 2010. At first the game was ridiculed by a ton of "DotA" fans saying that this is a total rip-off of the game itself, while I am an avid fan of both games, I detest the statement that this is a rip-off.

When the LoL first came to surface, the games community was fun. Players support one another by commenting those who are new in a way so that they could learn faster thus the game would be much more enjoyable for the newbies. As time passed by LoL was in the spotlight already and much has changed since then. Heroes have been nerfed, items had been added, and a lot more. Though one thing has certainly stood out of all that has changed and that has been the gamers community. The community has been so bad that beta players have been abandoning the love for their game, "Trash Talk" has been so rampant that good players loose their mood to play by either going "AFK", "Trolling", or "Leaving". I know that each and every player has their own opinion on how to play, but shouldn't be the game's highlight be teamwork? Why trash-talk your teammate when you can just pull each other up, win or loose at least we did our best.

I am a Filipino myself, born and bred in the Archipelago of the Philippine Islands. We are not known for being rude, rather we are known for being hospitable. We should change our words and choose it very carefully.

Pokemon Fifth Gen. Goodbye DreamWorld

It's time to say goodbye to our DS/DSi for Pokemon for the Pokemon DreamWorld Server on the Fifth Generation of Pokemon games would be closed as of today December 10, 2013. Though servers would be permanently close, pokemon trainers would still have time to complete their Pokedex if they would like to pass on their legacy to the Sixth Generation(Pokemon X/Y).

Through the years of catching rare and exotic pokemon all over the regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. Pokemon Trainers and Breeders are once again challenged to complete the Pokedex yet for another time in the Region of Kalos.
Though it'll be easier to complete it if you have been collecting since Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire was out in the market. All you need to do is transfer all your Pokemon from "Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green" to "Diamond/Pearl/Platinum" to "Black/White/Black 2/White 2", since Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Transfer would be available come mid December. Though please keep in mind that this service would only be free for a limited time, and continous usage would require a yearly subscription.

After all said and done, this doesn't mean that we need to abandon our beloved Pokemon, we can always come back for them and reminice the good old times. "Gotta Catch Them All!"
